Settings & Configuration in 7 Steps
Distance units, dark mode, tracking mode, vehicles, IRS rates, and your account — every setting in one walkthrough.
Settings covers seven things: where to find them, distance units, dark mode, whether trips start automatically or manually, managing your vehicles, the IRS mileage rates, and your account. The two worth deciding deliberately are the start preference — automatic captures the short trips people forget — and vehicles, because the IRS expects mileage records kept per vehicle.
Which Settings Actually Matter?
TrakMiles Pro is designed to disappear into the background of your work day. Set Auto mode, choose your distance unit, add your vehicles, and the app does the rest — tracking every mile, calculating deductions at the current IRS rate, and backing up your data automatically. The only time you need to revisit settings is when something changes — a new car, a new tax year, or a preference for dark mode on those late-night delivery shifts.
Every setting affects the entire app consistently. Switch to Kilometers and every screen, export, and widget updates instantly. Turn on dark mode and every dialog, chart, and notification shade matches. Auto mode threshold too sensitive? Slide it up to 5 or 6 minutes and false stops at red lights disappear.

Where are the settings in TrakMiles Pro?
In the app menu. The tutorial shows the exact path with audio, then walks each setting in turn.
Can I switch between miles and kilometres?
Yes, distance units are a setting. Everything recalculates, including your reports and exports.
Should I use automatic or manual trip start?
Automatic captures trips you would otherwise forget, which is where most mileage is lost. Manual gives you full control and uses less battery. Most drivers are better served by automatic with a review step.
How do I manage more than one vehicle?
Add each vehicle in settings and trips are recorded against the one you were driving. Keeping them separate matters because the IRS expects per-vehicle mileage records, and mixed trips are what undermine a log.
Does the app keep the IRS mileage rate current?
The rates screen carries the current business rate and prior years. 2026 is unusual because the rate changed mid-year: 72.5 cents a mile for miles driven January through June and 76 cents from July 1.
